Baya
Bringing a Luxury Nature Retreat to Life Before It Exists
Baya is unlike a typical resort. It’s an entirely new hospitality concept built around one simple idea: reconnecting people with nature.
Every element of the experience has been designed to immerse guests in the landscape. From farm-to-table dining and breakfasts made with fruit picked that morning, to yoga, sound healing, spa treatments and wellness experiences surrounded by nature. Even the guest accommodation reflects this philosophy, with private bungalows nestled throughout the property rather than a traditional hotel building.

The Challenge
When we began the project, however, none of it existed.
The first Baya resort, located in Redlands, Miami, was still in the planning stages, with construction only just beginning. There were no complete buildings, no photography, and no real-world guest experience to showcase. Instead, we had architectural plans, concept imagery, branding assets, and a vision of what Baya would become.
Our challenge was to create a website that allowed visitors to experience a place they couldn’t yet visit and believe in a brand they couldn’t yet see.

Our Approach
Baya supplied the brand identity, messaging, architectural concepts and vision for the resort. Our role was to transform those assets into a digital experience that felt every bit as aspirational as the destination itself.
Rather than simply presenting information, we focused on creating an emotional journey. Every page was designed to slow visitors down, tell the story of the land, and communicate the feeling of escaping into nature.
The visual language embraces generous white space, immersive imagery, elegant typography and a calm, considered pace, mirroring the experience guests will one day have at the resort itself.

Designing Mobile First
One of the most distinctive aspects of this project was Baya’s commitment to a true mobile-first experience.
Rather than following the traditional workflow of designing desktop layouts first and then adapting them for smaller screens, the client challenged us to reverse the process.
We designed the entire mobile experience first.
Instead of treating mobile as a condensed version of the desktop site, we carefully crafted every interaction, content hierarchy and user journey specifically for people discovering Baya on their phones.
Only once the mobile experience was complete did we design the desktop version.
This wasn’t simply a responsive website. It became two thoughtfully designed experiences, each optimized for the way people naturally browse on that device. In some cases, content hierarchy and layouts differ between desktop and mobile to create the best possible experience rather than forcing one design to fit every screen.
It was a refreshing approach that ultimately produced a more intuitive and engaging website.

A Platform Designed for Growth
While Redlands, Miami will become Baya’s first destination, it is only the beginning.

The website has been designed with future expansion in mind, creating a flexible framework that can accommodate additional resorts, experiences and destinations as the brand grows.
By establishing a scalable design system from the outset, new locations can be introduced while maintaining a consistent premium brand experience across the entire Baya portfolio.
The Outcome
Although the first resort is still under construction, the website gives visitors a compelling glimpse into what Baya will become.
It captures the atmosphere, philosophy and lifestyle behind the brand while creating excitement ahead of launch.
Most importantly, it demonstrates how thoughtful digital design can bring an unbuilt destination to life, allowing guests to imagine themselves there long before the first bungalow opens its doors.
